Coreban Vibe 8'

Surfari Stand Up Paddle & Surf was proud to take delivery of one of only three Coreban Vibe 8 footers last weekend for shop team rider John O'Hara. Johnny O had previously owned and loved his Coreban 9' Fusion but had left it in Tortola after a trip there this past spring. He Coreban Vibe 8' lineup was then on the search for a performance oriented SUP in the sub 9' length, mostly  looking at boards in the mid 8' range from different manufacturers. The minute he saw the first picture of the Vibe online he knew he had found his board and placed the order! Already familiar with the line and its build quality Johnny was stoked to get on the list for another Coreban. Being the Boston areas authorized Coreban dealer Surfari SUP & Surf jumped on the order and found out that there were only three Vibes coming to US of which we were able get one! Fortunately for all parties involved those Vibes were scheduled to arrive a week after we had placed the order. So last weekend New England Coreban rep Shawn MacDonald was able to hand deliver the Vibe 8' in Pure construction to a smiling Johnny O and make his dreams of short high performance SUP come true! At 6'4" and 185 John is a pretty tall guy. The 130.9 liters of volume and 29" width of the Vibe was easily able to float his lanky frame and I'll be the first to say that his stand up surfing performance has jumped up a couple levels with the Vibe in his quiver. Coreban Vibe and Johnny O at Surfari SUP & SurfWith a string of a couple of small days of surf in the up to chest high range in Cape Ann last weekend into the start of the week, Johnny O was able to get the Vibe out and get a feel for her. What I witnessed being in the water with him on a dawn patrol during Memorial Day weekend at Long Beach and Good Harbor in Gloucester was a board that fit perfectly in the waves. The surf was pretty gutless and in the knee to belly button high range with light side shores and light chop. The 8' Vibe with it's nice rail outline and super surfy rocker fit right into waves and I saw Johnny O flying down the line while every other surfer out was bogging in the gutless waves. The Vibe fit right in the pocket and he was pumping that board down the line like a shortboard. The best part was that John wasn't just rebounding off oncoming white water sections, he was hitting them higher and harder then I had ever seen him do on any other SUP! With his speed in the mush and the bottom/outline of the Vibe he was able to get off a bottom turn and hit the oncoming sections getting his little 8' pocket rocket pretty vert on his mini lip smacks. I was very impressed and wished that I could even stand on the Vibe without sinking it up to my shins! The Vibe that John has is beautiful in the Pure construction with the Australian Pine deck outlined by white rails and bottom. The dimensions are 8' by 29" wide by 4.5" thick with 130.9 liters of volume. In my opinion Coreban has a winner on their hands for experienced stand up surfers looking for a SUP in the 8 to 9 foot range. It will probably also work pretty well as a kids SUP or for smaller women. With five boxes the board is versatile and can be ridden as a tri, 2+1, or quad. Coreban has definitely come up with a great rocker line and it shows in the trio of the 10' Icon, the 9' Fusion, and the 8' Vibe.
