Sunday Morning Stand Up Paddle On Boston's North Shore

Went for a nice Sunday morning stand up paddle session out of Manchester by-the-Sea's picturesque harbor this morning with Mike Brown and Jimmy Vincent. Those of you who paddle around New England and especially Massachusetts may know Mike Brown or "Bald Brownie" as one of the founders of the Cape Cod Bay Challenge (CCBC) series of stand up paddle events run during the summer season in Massachusetts to benefit Christopher's Haven. Jimmy Vincent is a Gloucester surfer originally from New Jersey who was getting his first taste of sweeping. Welcome to the dark side Jim! stand up paddle cape ann stand_up_paddle_manchester_by-the-sea We all met at Brownie's house and walked down to paddle out from Tuck's Points iconic Rotunda early this morning. The air was a bit cool but the warmth of the late spring sun was very inviting. The non-existent wind and sheet glass conditions made it an ideal introduction to SUP for first timer Jim. Among the fleet were Brownie' custom Bark 12'6" Competitor, a good old SurfTech 12'1" Laird for Jim, and my 18' carbon Bark. Needless to say we were on some pretty differing equipment. The paddles were no different and included a Werner Nitro, Kialoa Methane, and a Quickblade Kanaha, all in carbon. It was a beautiful morning of paddling and we ended up doing 4.75 miles in the round trip out to Baker's Island and back. It was a good although maybe a little long introduction for Jimmy who did a great job keeping up with on his Laird and a perfect way to spend a Sunday morning! stand up paddle bakers island Come on out! It's supposed to sunny and cool with light E wind today, so it's a great day to get out and SUP...
