Nantucket 2006-2014 R.I.P.

Nantucket Surfari was the OG incarnation of Surfari out on the Grey Lady. Our merry band of surf instructors taught thousands of kids and adults to surf through our lessons and camps over the years at Ladies Beach. At the end of the 2012 season we passed to torch to Miles who ran the ship for two more years before breaking up the band at the end of the 2014 season...

Christian del Rosario

President/Minister of Propaganda

Christian was born and bred in Manchester by-the-Sea, MA and began surfing 26 years ago on the North Shore of Boston. Embracing the surfing lifestyle, as soon as he got his license he was charging all over New England with his buddies on “sUrfari” to find waves. Christian attended Rutgers University in New Jersey and while there was known to skip a class or two to make the 45 minute drive down the Jersey Shore for some waves. Over the years the sUrfari bug has taken Christian to surf in California, Costa Rica, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, St. Bart’s, the British Virgin Islands and the East Coast from Maine to Florida. He loves the Island lifestyle and has spent seventeen years of his life living between Nantucket, Martha’s Vineyard, Tortola and Hawaii. Another one of Christian’s ocean passions is sailing. From 1996-2001 he lived and traveled on boats, racking up approximately 25,000 miles of offshore sailing including a Trans-Atlantic passage. Those trips enabled Chrisitian to experience the boating life around the Atlantic and Caribbean all the while leading to some classic surf adventures. It was around this time that he began teaching people how to surf during summers on Nantucket. After getting his start and teaching at Nantucket Island Surf School for six years, Christian left at the end of the 2005 season and decided to create Nantucket sUrfari to share his love of surfing and fully immerse guests in the surf lifestyle during week long programs and lessons. Christian has taught thousands of people to surf and stand up paddle board over the last twelve years and Nantucket Surfari is till going strong. In 1996 Christian created a website focused solely on the New England surfing experience called nesUrfari. It brought New England surfing to thousands of wired people around the world for over a decade. It’s a labor of love as he wears many hats including webmaster, editor, writer and photographer. Christian has also fallen in love with surf photography and enjoys capturing the essence of surfing with his camera. His shots have been published in Eastern Surf Magazine, N’EAST, The Surfer’s Journal and WSSM as well as online on Surfline.com and Poorboyusa.com not to mention his beloved nesUrfari.com. In the Fall of 2005 Christian’s surf photography was featured in a show at the Big Zanda Gallery in Gloucester Massachusetts. In 2003 he started Hawaiian Lion which manufactured long sleeve Hawaiian Shirts to promote the “Island Lifestyle”. They were sold on the internet and in retail stores. The last couple of shirts are collectors items! Christian and his wife Nicole are also the proud parents of Makayla and her younger sister Raquel, who are both water babies who like to like to surf and stand up paddle when they can get mom or dad to take them out! They like to hang out at the shop and help out if they aren’t busy running around and playing with the neighbors.
